Thigh Lift

shutterstock_155424350WHAT IS A THIGHPLASTY (THIGH LIFT)?

Thigh lift (thighplasty) surgery is a procedure to correct the aesthetic problems resulting from a loss of skin elasticity in the thigh region. Although thighplasty is appropriate for anyone seeking to enhance the aesthetic appeal of their thigh region, thigh lifts are often performed on patients who have lost a great deal of weight, as a result of bariatric (weight loss) surgery, or through a traditional diet and exercise regimen.

The most common thighplasty goals include:

  • Tightening and sculpting the shape and contour of the thighs
  • Lifting and firming the inner and outer thighs to provide a leaner, more athletic appearance
  • Improving the appearance of sagging, excess skin in the outer or inner thigh region

There are three general types of thighplasty procedures:

  • Inner Thigh Lift: Using an incision made at the intersection of the upper thigh and pubic area, our surgeons will use this technique to tighten, lift and contour the inner thighs.
  • Bilateral Thigh Lift: This procedure will enable our surgeons to tighten the skin along both the right and left side of the leg using an incision made at the top of the leg, approximately where the bottom edge of bikini underwear would fall
  • Medial Thigh Lift:  After making an incision from the groin to the back of the buttock crease, our surgeons will lift and tighten the skin on the upper part of the inner thigh, removing excess fat in the process.

Following his thorough medical evaluation and assessment of your aesthetic preferences and current state of health, our surgeons will determine the optimal thighplasty procedure to fulfill your surgical goals, and will create a customized treatment plan tailored specifically to facilitate a safe and successful thighplasty outcome.

For patients who require a more intensive course of thighplasty treatment, or who present with an excessive amount of fatty tissue in the thigh region, our board certified plastic surgeons at Tribeca Medaesthetics may recommend that liposuction be performed in conjunction with your thigh lift, in order to amplify and maximize your surgical results.

Your thighplasty surgery will be performed in an outpatient setting under general anesthesia, and typically lasts approximately two hours. Following your thigh lift surgery, our surgeons will insert drains to allow for the drainage of excess fluid. These drains will be removed several days after your procedure during one of your post-operative follow-up visits.

The length of your post-operative recovery period will depend upon the specific details of your thighplasty surgery; however, you should plan to set aside at least 7-10 days for proper rest and recovery, and you should try to minimize your leg movement as much as possible during your recuperation. The majority of your post-surgical swelling or bruising should subside within a month, and most patients find that they are able to recommence all of their regular daily activities within four to six months.
