A member of the Restylane family of injectable dermal fillers (includes Restylane, Restylane-L®, Perlane®, and Perlane-L®), Perlane is a biocompatible formulation of hyaluronic acid, meaning that it has the same structure and function as the hyaluronic acid your body naturally produces and will eventually be broken down organically.
Hyaluronic acid transfers vital nutrients from your bloodstream to your skin cells, and adds support and fullness to facial structures and tissues that have lost volume or elasticity as a result of the normal aging process. Hyaluronic acid also benefits the condition of one’s skin by bringing water to the surface of skin, and rehydrating it to keep it looking revitalized and supple. Perlane injections offer a non-invasive solution to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, and are often used to minimize the appearance of prominent nasolabial folds (smile lines), which extend from your nose to the corners of your mouth.
Although both Perlane and Restylane are hyaluronic-acid based dermal fillers, they differ in terms of the average size of the particles and the depth of injection. Perlane injections are deeper than Restylane injections, making Perlane an ideal choice for patients who present with more severe facial wrinkles that would benefit from a deeper injection into the skin. However, because Perlane has not been approved as a lip volumizing treatment, patients desiring lip enhancement would benefit from Restylane rather than Perlane injections. For patients who are concerned with potential discomfort during their dermal filler procedure, Perlane is also offered as Perlane-L, a hyaluronic acid formulation that includes the numbing agent lidocaine and is designed to minimize pain during and after treatment.
Dermal filler injections require a high degree of skill and precision, which is why it is crucial to have your Perlane injections administered by a trained practitioner who specializes in the aesthetic enhancement field. Dr. Jason A. Shapiro, M.D. makes it a priority to stay up to date with the latest developments in the field of non-surgical skin rejuvenation procedures in order to offer his patients the most effective treatments with minimal side effects and long-lasting results. As the Medical Director at Tribeca Medaesthetics, located in beautiful Miami Beach, Florida, Dr. Shapiro and his team of professionally trained medical aestheticians have helped many patients reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and restore lost volume to their skin with Perlane injections.

Your Perlane treatment will be performed in the Tribeca Medaesthetics office, and typically takes no longer than one hour, after which you may immediately return to your normal daily activities. Following your treatment, you may notice some temporary swelling, bruising, pain, redness, and tenderness at the injection sites; however, these symptoms are generally very mild, can be minimized with cold compresses, and will subside within a few days. The wrinkle-reducing and skin-rejuvenating effects of your Perlane injections will be noticeable immediately after your first treatment, and will last for approximately six months (these results can be extended to last up to 18 months when periodic maintenance injections are performed 4.5 or 9 months after the initial treatment). Complementary cosmetic skin treatments (ie. chemical peels, microdermabrasion and dermal fillers) can be performed in conjunction with Perlane injections to amplify and maximize your results.
