Tummy Tuck

Stubborn pockets of abdominal fat, often presenting as tummy bulges or an abdominal ‘pooch,’ have led many men and women to perform seemingly endless crunches and sit-ups, oftentimes with disappointing and frustrating results. Regrettably, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen is often an insufficient measure when it comes to reducing the appearance of abdominal fat deposits or lifting and tightening loose abdominal skin, which is why so many patients are seeking out abdominoplasty surgery as an effective method of enhancing the appearance of their abdominal regions.

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) surgery is a valuable option to eliminate persistent abdominal fat deposits, and can be used to safely tighten and tone the appearance of a protruding or flabby stomach. Tummy tuck surgery also benefits patient suffering from the exasperating problem of abdominal skin laxity (looseness, loss of firmness), which can result from a variety of factors, including: the natural aging process, pregnancy and childbirth, hormonal imbalances, significant weight loss or gain, genetics, and stress. During an abdominoplasty procedure, excess fat is removed from the lower and middle abdominal region, loose abdominal skin is excised, and the abdominal musculature is lifted and tightened, thereby flattening and smoothing the overall appearance of your stomach.

The primary issues abdominoplasty patients seek to correct include:

At your initial consultation, our board certified plastic surgeons will conduct a comprehensive medical evaluation in order to determine your aesthetic preferences and current state of health, and will then create a customized treatment plan tailored specifically to facilitate a safe and successful abdominoplasty outcome. Abdominoplasty surgery is generally performed in an outpatient setting, under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. During your tummy tuck surgery, our board certified plastic surgeons will make a horizontal incision between the pubic hairline and the navel to repair and strengthen debilitated abdominal muscles. He will also remove excess fat, tissue, and skin through this incision and (if necessary), will make a second incision around the circumference of your navel in order to reposition your belly button to a more aesthetically appropriate location. You will notice visible results immediately following your tummy tuck surgery, and these results will continue to improve over the next few months, as any lingering swelling subsides. Although every patient’s recovery process varies to a certain degree, all patients should generally abstain from strenuous physical activity for at least six weeks following their abdominoplasty procedure, and may need to take up to a month off of work to allow for proper healing and a successful recovery.
