Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the eyelid.  The eyelid and the skin around the eye are among the most fragile and delicate parts of the visible body.

Our eyes are often the first to exhibit preliminary signs of aging and show the effects of stress, poor sleep habits, sun damage, and environmental exposure.  Luckily, a blepharoplasty can correct many of these issues, rejuvenating your eyes, restoring their natural beauty, and enhancing the fresh, youthful look of your entire face.

A blepharoplasty can minimize “crow’s feet” (fine lines and wrinkles around the eye) or address a number of problems either in the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both.  A blepharoplasty focusing on the upper eyelids can correct folds in the upper eyelid, which can change the natural contour of the eyes and potentially impair eyesight, or address the appearance of swollen upper eyelids through the removal of excess fatty deposits.  A blepharoplasty can also reduce the looks of “bags” under the eyes and sagging, droopy, or puffy lower eyelids.  Addressing any or all of these problems will significantly improve the appearance of your eyes and make you look more refreshed, alert, and well-rested.

Your eyes are sensitive, delicate, and absolutely vital.  Moreover, changes in the shape and appearance of your eyes can affect your overall appearance.  The surgical techniques required during eyelid surgery require an exceptional level of accuracy and expertise and should only be performed by a skillful, Board Certified plastic surgeon, such as our board certified plastic surgeons at Tribeca Medaesthetics, located in beautiful Miami Beach, Florida. In the experienced hands of our surgeons, you will be able to correct the early signs of aging and environmental damage to your eyes and begin to restore the natural beauty of your entire face.

Blepharoplasty surgery can be broken down into three distinct procedures, all of which can be performed alone or in combination, and may be performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries.  In all cases, incisions are as small as possible and are carefully placed to ensure that scars are well-concealed with the natural structures of the eye.

  • Upper Eyelid Lift: An incision is made in the naturally-occurring crease of the upper eyelid, through which your surgeon can remove excess skin, tighten the appropriate muscles and/or skin, and adjust fatty deposits.
  • Lower Eyelid Lift: To correct problems such as sagging, drooping, or bagginess in the lower eyelid and underneath the eyes, your surgeon will use an incision in the lower lash line to remove excess skin and make other necessary adjustments.
  • Transconjunctival Lower Eyelid Surgery: Using a transconjunctival incision, hidden inside the lower eyelid, your surgeon can remove or adjust excess fat and correct other lower eyelid conditions.

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.  It has a recovery period of approximately one week.  After your blepharoplasty, proper sun protection is critical, and you should wear darkly tinted sunglasses until the healing process is complete.  Post-blepharoplasty irritation, bruising, dry eyes, and swelling may be treated with pain medication, cold compresses and ointments.
