The nose is the most prominent feature of the face. Its size and shape impact the symmetry, balance, and overall beauty of the entire face. If you feel your nose is too big or too wide, too long and narrow, droopy or pointy, or even too small, rhinoplasty may be an excellent solution for you.
Rhinoplasty, or nasal reshaping surgery, is designed to alter the shape, appearance, and symmetry of the nose, enhancing facial harmony and improving self-confidence. Rhinoplasty may also be necessary to correct breathing problems caused by structural abnormalities, or to reverse damage to the nose resulting from injury or accident. Specifically, rhinoplasty can correct:
- The size of the nose in relation to other facial features
- The width of the nose at the bridge or at the end
- The profile of the nose, correcting bumps or curves on the bridge
- Nostrils that are upturned, too wide, or very large
- Nasal deviation and asymmetry
The nose is seen only in context with other facial features, and therefore any changes to the nose must take into account the impact of those changes on the whole face. When planning changes to the nose, your surgeon must consider your skin and facial features and be able to translate your wishes into beautiful and symmetrical results. For this reason, it is very important that rhinoplasty be performed only by a skillful, Board Certified plastic surgeon with a keen eye for facial aesthetics. Our board certified plastic surgeons at Tribeca Medaesthetics, located in Miami Beach, Florida have in-depth knowledge of the intricate facial structures, and takes pride in helping his patients enhance the balance, proportions, and overall aesthetic appearance of their faces.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AND AFTER RHINOPLASTY

The nose is composed of bone and cartilage covered by skin, all of which can be altered during rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia or IV sedation, although patients with other health problems may require an overnight stay for additional monitoring after the procedure. During the operation, the surgeon will create an incision within the nostrils or across the columella (the cartilage between the nostrils) depending on the level of alteration required, although in both cases steps are taken to minimize post-procedural scarring. The incisions allow the surgeon to lift the tissue of the nose and readjust the bone and cartilage underneath. If extensive changes to the cartilage are required, the surgeon may harvest additional cartilage from the septum or ear, or in extreme cases from the ribs. Once the underlying structure of the nose has been reshaped, the tissue and skin are redraped and the incisions closed. At this point, additional incisions may be required to alter the shape and size of the nostrils.
After the procedure, internal tubes and external splints will remain in place for at least one week to ensure that the nose heals in the correct position. You may notice slight bleeding and drainage of old mucus and blood, as well as some post-operative swelling and bruising around the eyelids. For the first few weeks after surgery, it is important to avoid strenuous activities, movements that may stress the nose such as blowing your nose or pulling tight clothes over your head, or resting sunglasses or eyeglasses on the nose. Most post-operative swelling and discoloration will subside within a few weeks. However, it may take up to one year for the contours of the nose to assume their permanent shape.
