About Sculptra
Sculptra is a unique dermal filler that contains a biocompatible substance known as poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). The tiny microspheres in the formula work to gradually renew your skin for a smoother, more radiant appearance, combatting signs of aging in the process.
Collagen is a protein that helps your skin maintain its structure and elasticity. When collagen levels decline, it is common to experience sagging skin and fine lines that affect your appearance. Sculptra can correct mid-face volume loss in addition to wrinkles and folds. It can also improve the appearance of your temples, reduce the appearance of smile lines, and define your cheekbones.
“Sculptra is an excellent option for individuals looking to regain lost facial volume and restore a more youthful complexion without undergoing cosmetic surgery.”

How to Prepare for a Sculptra Treatment
To prepare for a Sculptra treatment, you will need to:
- Discontinue medications or supplements that thin your blood
- Avoid alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours before and after your treatment
You will also need to be prepared to take good care of your skin after the treatment and avoid sun exposure. Using sunscreen regularly can help you extend your results.
Procedure
On the day of your procedure, you will need to arrive at the office with a clean face. First, we will cleanse your skin. To ensure a comfortable, pain-free experience, Dr. Shapiro will mix Sculptra with lidocaine (a local anesthetic medication). Then using a soft-tipped cannula, he will gently introduce the product under the skin which significantly reduces the risk of bruising. Immediately after the treatment, you may notice some improvement in your skin’s appearance that will subside over the next few days. The real volumizing effect of Sculptra will develop gradually over several weeks.
Most patients require 2-3 treatment sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results.
Recovery & Results
There is generally minimal downtime after a Sculptra procedure. You may experience some minor, temporary swelling or bruising, but most patients can resume their daily activities immediately. The outcomes of Sculptra can last up to two years, although individual results may vary based on factors such as lifestyle and age.
Since Sculptra stimulates collagen production, it requires several weeks to renew your skin. After a Sculptra treatment, you can enjoy smoother more youthful skin with fewer wrinkles and fine lines. As the collagen in your skin works to renew it over time, you can enjoy a more even complexion. You can also enjoy a naturally plump look with lasting volume.
Corresponding Procedures
Botox & Dysport
Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport are injectable treatments that reduce the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles on the face. These treatments work by temporarily relaxing specific muscles, making them a popular choice for individuals who want a smoother and younger-looking complexion. People often desire these treatments due to their minimally invasive nature, quick results, and natural-looking outcomes.
Dermal Fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers are a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment used to enhance facial features and reduce signs of aging. They are designed to correct volume loss, smooth out wrinkles, and improve the overall appearance of the skin. Many people seek dermal fillers to restore youthful fullness, contour their cheeks, augment their lips, or treat areas like nasolabial folds and tear troughs.
Kybella
Kybella is a non-surgical treatment specifically designed to reduce submental fullness, which is commonly known as a double chin. This FDA-approved injectable treatment uses deoxycholic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body, to target and dissolve fat cells beneath the chin, resulting in a more refined profile. Many individuals seek Kybella treatment for various reasons, including improving their overall facial contour, enhancing self-esteem, and achieving a more youthful appearance without the need for surgical interventions.

What areas can be treated with Sculptra?
Common treatment areas include the cheeks, temples, jawline, and nasolabial folds.
What is PLLA?

Are there any side effects to Sculptra?
Some patients experience minor bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site. You can easily alleviate any discomfort with a cold compress or over-the-counter medication.
