Sculptra Aesthetic (Sculptra) is a new type of FDA-approved facial injectable treatment made from a biocompatible synthetic material known as poly-L-lactic acid. Sculptra helps to replenish your body’s diminished levels of collagen over time, thereby treating and correcting shallow to deep facial wrinkles, and folds, resulting in a naturally refreshed, youthful appearance.

The subtle yet powerful effects of Sculptra Aesthetic injections offer the unique benefit of being able to last up to two years (most injectable fillers last six months to a year), and because poly-L-lactic acid can be absorbed naturally by the body, and does not use any human or animal components, no allergy testing is needed prior to treatment.

Sculptra injectable treatments are specifically designed to address and treat the following cosmetic problems related to aging and facial volume loss, including:

  • Marionette Lines: lines that run straight downwards from the corners of the mouth

  • Chin Wrinkles: this wrinkle forms horizontally across the chin, which can detract from the appearance of one’s smile

Although it is often assumed that the visible signs of aging do not become apparent until the late 30’s, in fact, facial aging actually begins in the 20s when the firmness and elasticity of the skin begins to decrease. While facial aging is caused by a number of internal and external (environmental) factors, the depletion of the body’s natural collagen levels that takes place as a part of the natural aging process is one of the most powerful and impactful variables on one’s facial appearance. Collagen is a key structural component that keeps skin youthful looking and smooth. As you age, your body’s collagen production decreases, and you may begin to see wrinkles. By replenishing depleted collagen levels and proving a reinforced structural foundation for the skin, Sculptra gradually fills in the appearance of wrinkles and folds, and restores the look of youthfully smooth, supple skin.

Dr.  Jason A. Shapiro, M.D. is committed to providing his patients with the best possible skin rejuvenation options available, and has received  specialized trained on the use of Sculptra Aesthetic in order to be able to legally and safely administer Sculptra Aesthetic treatments. As the Medical Director at Tribeca Medaesthetics, located in beautiful Miami Beach, Florida, Dr. Shapiro and his team of professionally trained medical aestheticians have helped many patients experience the long-lasting wrinkle-reduction and facial volumizing benefits of Sculptra injections.

In general, facial rejuvenation treatment with Sculptra Aesthetic involves a series of 3 treatment sessions over the course of a few months. During your initial consultation, Dr. Shapiro will conduct an extensive assessment of the condition of your skin in order to determine the optimal number of Sculptra injections and treatment sessions you will need to achieve your aesthetic goals.  The injection process is generally brief and relatively painless (Dr. Shapiro will administer a local anesthetic when necessary), and most patients resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.  Temporary post-treatment side effects are generally mild, and may include: swelling, injection site pain, redness, bruising, or bleeding.  Within the first 24 hours of treatment, you can minimize swelling by applying a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the area for a few minutes at a time. Dr. Shapiro will give you specific instructions for how to properly massage the treated area in order to help evenly distribute Sculptra Aesthetic.

The visible results of your Sculptra treatment will gradually become apparent within the first few weeks after each treatment session, will continue to improve over the course of the next few months, and will last approximately two years.  Complementary cosmetic skin treatments (ie. chemical peels, microdermabrasion and Botox/Dysport) can be performed in conjunction with Sculptra injections to amplify and maximize your skin rejuvenating results.
